New York City: A Perfect Night in the Big Apple
A visit to New York wouldn’t be complete without taking in a Broadway show. This isn’t just going to any theater however. This is New York City. We’re talking Broadway ba-by! So don’t just think about enjoying a day of sightseeing following by a rush back to the hotel for a quick change before slouching into your seats. No siree, this is Broadway and it doesn’t fall into the “activity” category, it’s more of an “experience”.
Your night starts long before curtain up. Actually it starts by obtaining tickets to your chosen performance – which means it could start at home purchasing the tickets online, or it could start earlier the same day as you intend seeing the show when you stand in line at one of the three TKTS Booths that sell same-day tickets at a huge discount (you could save 50% if you have a desire to see the right show on the right day – or alternatively don’t really care what you see as long as you experience some Broadway magic). Get there early and not only will you get the best pick of tickets, but you’ll also spend less time waiting in a queue wondering if there’ll be time to do anything else between buying the tickets and dinner!
This leads nicely into the next part of your Broadway night out – dinner. There are a number of restaurants in the Broadway/Times Square area that offer pre-theater dining, but if you are more into nostalgia and focused on that whole Broadway theme, then dinner at Sardis is a must. The cuisine might not be at the same standard as some now higher starred restaurants but this was THE place for theater people to be seen in its heyday. Today you might be lucky to see a celebrity there, but you’ll most likely have to do with star spotting amongst the framed caricature filled walls that Sardi’s is famed for. These images are all people who have dined at this, one of New York City’s most famous restaurants, so you’ll definitely be dining with the stars.
Following dinner make your way to the appropriate theater for your show. Make sure that you’re in plenty of time to allow for finding seats and locating the nearest bathroom etc in case you should need it. Enjoy the show!
Following the final curtain call, don’t be tempted to go straight back to your hotel. Instead, make your way to Junior’s situated between Broadway and 8th Avenue, and choose a serving of one of their famous cheesecakes. Junior’s is reputed to be the best cheesecake in the world so it’s a perfect way to finish off your perfect night out in New York City.
