Vacation Warning: Winter Vacation Insurance

Published by katieanne under Budget, GENERAL Edit This

If you’re planning a winter vacation that’s going to include some winter sports take a close look at any insurance policy you’re considering before your sign the form.

Winter sports are not always covered by basic blanket type insurance policies.  They may cover you for insect bites, but not broken ankles caused by falling off the ski-lift - even if you hadn’t had a glass of warm brandy before making your way up the mountain!  Ensure that your policy explicitly states it covers accidents which occur whilst you are taking part in activities, or at least doesn’t list these under the exclusion.  If you are intending to ski, snowboard, or skate during your winter vacation it’s always a good idea to have these things specifically mentioned on your insurance coverage.

Insurance for your vacation is always a budget choice.   If you are going on a winter vacation where you plan to take part in outdoor activities where accidents are more likely than a sedate beach sunbathing vacation however, it’s worth the peace of mind to know that you aren’t going to be out of pocket for the unexpected expenses.

On a similar note, if you are taking your own snowboard or skis with you, ensure that your insurance policy covers any damage to these that is incurred during transit, or theft should you be unfortunate enough to have them stolen while you’re away.  Try to ensure your policy gives a replacement value rather than a limited amount.
