Winter Travel: Whistler’s Winter Wonderland

Published by katieanne at 12:57 pm under Canada, Family Edit This

A short drive from Vancouver you’ll find the top notch ski resort of Whistler.  Set in one of Beautiful British Columbia’s mountain playgrounds the host of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games is definitely a great place to spend a winter vacation whether it’s a week or even just a couple of days getting away from it all.

Whistler is a place that’s getting increasingly popular, not least of all because it’s probably the best ski resort in North America, and not just because of the up-coming Olympics.   It’s also a place where celebrities have been known to chill out away from the prying eyes of the paparazzi.   There’s something for every kind of traveler here.  Whether you’re a snow loving family wanting to spend every moment out on the ski slopes, or a mom having a relaxation break in one of the spas while dad takes the kids out cross country ski-ing or supervises them on the outdoor skating rink, you’re sure to have a great time.

There’s not just the usual ski-ing on offer here however.  A winter vacation in Whistler is definitely somewhere for anyone seeking adventure and extreme sports, whether relatively subdued activities such as snowmobiling, or more thrill seeking such as heli-skiing/heli-snowboarding and ice climbing, there’s a lot to get the adrenalin rushing through your system.

For those wanting a romantic getaway in a breathtakingly stunning landscape, what could be better than an aerial sightseeing tour – well apart from the bald eagle viewing of course – followed by a pre-dinner sleigh ride?  Whistler has it all, and it’s so close to Vancouver that you could even incorporate a mini-break in one of Canada’s most popular cities into your winter vacation.

If you’re looking for a winter travel destination that offers family fun, excitement, outdoor (and indoor) fun, along with good quality accommodation and Canadian hospitality, then Whistler has to be close to the top of your list.
