Disney World Magic Kingdom, Orlando, Florida: For the Young AND the Young at Heart

Published by katieanne at 10:54 am under Family, USA Edit This

Of all the Disney World parks, the Magic Kingdom is the one that is aimed at younger children, the pre-schoolers who love Mickey and laugh at Chip ‘n’ Dale, and the wannabe princesses who want to see Snow White or Cinderella walk by, but there’s something about the Magic Kingdom that makes it a great day out for parents too.  I don’t know if there’s something in that Disney air, but even waiting in line for a Pirates of the Caribbean ride, or even getting to a good location early to see the parade doesn’t seem to push the tantrum buttons on kids.

Having visited the Magic Kingdom as single traveler I expected to wait behind hot and flustered parents trying to coax whining children to sit still “just a little longer” but I was pleasantly shocked to see that the kids all waited without complaint (I can only hope mine will do the same one day!).  I was also surprised to see how much of the Magic Kingdom I enjoyed!  I think that as interest levels go, I was much more taken with what the Magic Kingdom had to offer than part of Epcot!  Perhaps that says more about me than Disney, but I did find that although the rides were more designed for younger children, they were still exciting and I didn’t have to worry about how high, wet or fast I was going to go – afterall most of the rides are safe enough for toddlers!

If you’re going to Orlando, and spending time at Disney, don’t ignore the Magic Kingdom if you have older kids.  There’s still a lot going on there for anyone that’s young at heart – and the railway that circles the Kingdom isn’t just for getting around the park, it’s also a great way of cooling down and escaping the afternoon sun!
